Volunteer Program

Volunteers provide significant support to the museum by assisting with events, programs, and other activities that serve the public. Reginald F. Lewis Museum volunteers have the unique opportunity to enlighten and inspire the public through the many stories and accomplishments of Maryland African-Americans.

Docent Program

Docents engage and inform the community about the Museum’s collections and special exhibitions. Docents create memorable experiences for our visitors and conduct tours for thousands of people each year. In addition to tours at the Museum, docents can also share their knowledge through presentations at various community organizations.

Travelers: Youth Volunteer Program

Travelers are trained youth museum volunteers, between the ages of 14-18. Travelers assist in interpreting the rich history and culture of African American Marylanders by leading tours, creating programs and visiting different cultural locations while discussing relevant issues in today’s world.
