Love of Liberty: The Liberian Flag Story with Kyra E. Hicks

In the 1820s and 30s when African Americans began emigrating to Liberia, many were from the East Coast including Maryland, Virginia, as well as Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee and Mississippi. When the country was officially established, African American women were part of the Liberian flag committee including two Marylanders. Quilt author and historian Kyra Hicks will share the fascinating history behind the Liberian flag from her e-book Love of Liberty: The Liberian Flag Story. In conjunction with the exhibition For Whom It Stands. Included with museum admission.
