MLK Celebration 2016
Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with activities for all ages. Come early for an MLK Birthday Party for kids with cupcakes plus crafts. Other activities include: "Da Up Raise: A Choreopoem," presented by the Positive Social Change Theater/Performing Arts Program of Augusta Fells Savage High School of Baltimore, MD which combines theater, spoken word, dance, and song to make a better tomorrow; a choral performance by the acapella group, Shades of Yale; and a screening and post-film talk of Profiled, a documentary about the pervasiveness and persistence of racial divides in America. The panelists are the film’s director, Kathleen Foster; Tawanda Jones, sister of Tyrone West, who was killed in Baltimore by officers during a routine traffic stop; Sonia Kumar, staff attorney for the ACLU of Maryland; and Mark Puente, an investigative reporter for the Baltimore Sun who has been nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize.
