Conjure Woman: Faith Healers, Hoodoo and Spirituality        

Saturday, March 2, 1 pm

Spend the afternoon with scholars and artists exploring the mystical world of conjure women in the black community. Hear musical selections from Oma Pearl of the Conjure Woman Band followed with a discussion on black blues women and the conjure tradition. Associate Professor Iyelli Ichile of Montgomery College follows examining the history of spiritual healer/root workers in the African American community.  Artist Renée Stout concludes discussing her past art exhibition, Tales of the Conjure Women which focuses on the African American experience and the existence of an underground system of African-derived folk beliefs as transmitted from slavery to the present.
