STEAM Day @ The Lewis – African Americans in Space
October 26, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Explore being an astronaut for a day at the Lewis! Youth will participate in cool hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities relating to space exploration and learn about African Americans who contribute to the field. This program is in partnership with the Maryland STEM Festival (Oct 11- Nov 10th) which is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. Free admission.

STEAM Space Activities include:
- Design and launch Rocket Straw Launchers
- Design and test Lunar Landers for the Moon
- Create grocery bag paper space helmets
- Travel through the solar system playing Walk Through Space Video Game
- Explore astronomy inside a STARLAB Portable Planetarium
- Examine an astronaut’s health with Bio Science Anatomy Figurines
- 12:30 pm Presentation: Contributions of African Americans in Space by Dewayne Washington, NASA Goddard’s Public Affairs Officer
