Entertainment Mogul and Philanthropist Kevin Liles Leads
Stellar Group of Honorees for Lewis Museum’s Into Utopia Gala
The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture (The Lewis Museum) today announced Kevin Liles – CEO, Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder of 300 Ent – will be honored with the Titan Award at Into Utopia, the museum’s 2023 Gala, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at The North Club at M&T Bank Stadium. Additional honorees include Trailblazer award winners The Honorable Adrienne A. Jones, Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, and Bishop Walter Scott Thomas, Sr., Pastor, New Psalmist Baptist Church; and the leadership of Revival Baltimore who will receive the Maverick Award. Into Utopia is presented by Kaiser Permanente with the support of Orion level sponsor Whiting-Turner and Andromeda level sponsor CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
Each year, The Lewis Museum selects Marylanders who exemplify its namesake’s distinction as a titan of industry, a trailblazer, and a maverick at its largest annual fundraiser. Reginald F. Lewis was the first Black man to successfully execute a buyout valued at a $1 billion before his life was tragically cut short when he succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 50. He was a maverick who blazed trails and broke down barriers; a titan of industry who never forget where he came from in a neighborhood not far from where the museum stands today.
“This year’s honoree class represents an eclectic mix of some of Maryland’s best and brightest,” said Terri Lee Freeman, The Lewis Museum’s executive director. “They each are leaving an indelible mark on the future of our state in their respective sectors that I’m certain would make Reginald F. Lewis quite proud.”
The 2022 gala attracted nearly 350 guests and raised more than $420,000 to support The Lewis Museum’s mission and work. Honorees included Titan Award winner Calvin G. Butler, Jr., Senior Vice President and COO, Exelon; Trailblazer Award winners Jayson Williams, CEO of Mayson-Dixon Companies, and Teaera Strum, CEO of Strum Contracting, Inc.; and Maverick honoree Destiny-Simone Ramjohn, Ph.D., Vice President of Community Health and Social Impact at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
